| 1.) The work is fired to approximately 1800º

| 2.) While still red hot, I remove the work from the kiln using tongs

| 3.) The work is placed in a container lined with newspaper.

4.) The container is covered with a lid to smother the flames. The carbon developed in this atmosphere embeds itself in the unglazed areas of the clay and creates some wonderful effects.
